Accessibility Statement
What we aim for, where we fall short, and how to tell us about a problem.
Last reviewed 24 September 2026
We want this site to be usable by everyone, including people who browse with a screen reader, a keyboard alone, magnification, or high-contrast settings. A hand or wrist injury can itself make a mouse difficult to use, which is a reason to take this seriously rather than treat it as a formality.
What we aim for
We work to WCAG 2.1 Level AA. We do not claim to have met it perfectly. The section below says where we know we fall short.
What we have done
The site is checked automatically every time it is rebuilt. As of 24 September 2026, across all 97 pages:
- Every image carries alternative text — none missing.
- Every form field has an associated label — none unlabelled.
- Headings run in order, with no skipped levels.
- Every page declares its language, and none uses a tab order that would trap keyboard navigation.
- Text and background colors are measured as they render on screen, not merely checked in the stylesheet, and several hundred contrast defects were corrected in September 2026.
Known limitations
Stated plainly, because a statement that claims perfection is not credible:
- Some text still falls short of the contrast target. A measured sweep of every page found a remaining set of low-contrast items, mostly single instances inside individual components. Work is ongoing.
- Ten links on the home page read “Learn more” without naming their destination, which is unhelpful when a screen reader lists links out of context. Queued for correction.
- The star rating beside our Google review score does not meet the contrast minimum. This is deliberate: rating gold cannot pass on a light background, and the numeric rating is always shown in text immediately beside the stars, which are hidden from screen readers.
- Decorative icons are emoji and render differently from device to device. Each sits beside a heading that says the same thing, so no information depends on seeing them.
- Anatomical diagrams carry small text labels. They illustrate the surrounding text rather than replace it.
Telling us about a barrier
If any part of this site stops you from finding what you need, please tell us. It is useful, and we would rather know:
- Email privacy@jacksonvillehandsurgery.com
- Telephone (904) 241-1204
- The report a problem form, which does not require an email address
Please tell us the page and what happened. We aim to respond within five business days.
If anything on this site is preventing you from requesting an appointment, call (904) 241-1204 and we will take your request over the phone. You should never be blocked from care by a website.
How this page is maintained
The automated checks described above run every time the site is rebuilt, so the claims in “What we have done” cannot drift from reality without the build reporting it.
